We design our Hikes so that you can explore Ireland and experience the different terrains and weather throughout the year.
We want you to enjoy each Hike, so we categorise each Hike so you can choose the ones you can do.
We have created six levels, each with details of what a Hiker should expect and be able to achieve.
Novice: This level of Hike is for someone with little or no experience. The pace for these hikes is 3 kph, the distance does not exceed 12 km, the ascent gain is between 0 and 200 m, and the duration is no longer than 4 hours.
Skilled: This level of Hike is for someone who has progressed from basic Hiking skills. The pace for these hikes is up to 4 kph, the distance does not exceed 16 km, the ascent gain is between 200 and 500 m, and the duration is no longer than 6 hours.
Intermediate: The Hike level is for someone with experience in hiking for at least 6 hours. The person has comprehensively outclassed the basics of Hiking but is not a complete expert. The pace for these hikes is 4+ kph, the distance does not exceed 26 km, the ascent gain is between 500 and 800 m, and the duration is no longer than 8 hours.
Seasoned: This level of Hike is for someone with experience on full-day Hikes. This person's experience ensures he can handle situations confidently and professionally. The pace for these hikes is 4+ kph, the distance exceeds 25 km, the ascent gain is between 800 and 1000 m, and the duration is no longer than 12 hours.
Advanced: The Hike level is for someone with experience on full-day Hikes, Hiking in different weather conditions and terrains, overnight Hikes, and two-day/one-night backpacking. The pace for these hikes is 5+ kph, the distance exceeds 25 km, the ascent gain is between 1000 and 2000 m, and the duration is up to 2 days / 1 night.
Expert: This level of Hike is for someone who has experience hiking for several days in different terrains and weather conditions. This person can take The 12 Peaks Challenge, The 4 Provinces Challenge, Hikes Abroad, etc. The pace for these hikes is 5+ kph, the distance exceeds 25 km, the ascent gain is over 2000 m, and the duration can be over 2 days.
